One of the things that I immediately wanted to do was give the table a darker, sophisticated and emotional feel

I'm a sucker for a good table and I loved designing this moody tablescape to inspire my friends and you guys for V(G)alentine's Day. One of the things that I immediately wanted to do was give the table a darker, sophisticated and emotional feel so, I swapped out the traditional pink, red and white color palette and replaced it with deeper hues of wine, burgundy, mauve and charcoal.

When designing this table I wanted to keep things light and playful but I also wanted things to look and feel elevated. One way that I've found to easily elevate any table design is to use linen and cloth napkins and table runners. I wanted the table to feel dreamy and elegant and cheesecloth table runners are the easiest way to achieve that, so, being the creative that I am, I dyed a few yards of cheesecloth in my kitchen sink and created one that was the perfect shade. I also used linen napkins in a different hue for contrast.

Flowers are also one of the least expensive ways to give a space - a table especially - personality.

I'm not that great with taking care of plants, but I absolutely adore flowers and will use them every chance that I have to decorate a table. Flowers are also one of the least expensive ways to give a space - a table especially - personality. For the centerpiece, I used varied sizes of ranunculus and wax flowers and assorted focals as an added texture on top of the runner. I grounded the table in a darker, muted palette by using these matte glazed stoneware plates and cutlery and I used different heights for the glasses - This everyday stemware for wine and the smaller water glasses are repurposed yogurt cups (yes, yogurt cups - details on that coming soon). In addition to natural light, which is always preferred, I added tapers, these holders and votives to finish the look.

I chose these basic everyday goblets for wine, the smaller water glasses are repurposed yogurt cups (yes, yogurt cups - details on that coming soon) and the water bottles are also repurposed wine bottles. Using what you have and finding different ways to present the everyday - like water in yogurt cups and empty wine bottles - is what will add to the emotion of your table. I truly enjoyed designing this table and I hope that you find some inspiration not only for your V-day or G-day celebrations this week but for all of your entertaining going forward! Remember, perfection is not the goal. Create an emotional table by starting with what you have and let what feels right to you guide the design. If you recreate this look, definitely don't forget to tag me on IG or leave a comment for me here, I would love to see what you've come up with.
