Kenya is a New York based creator dedicated to designing thoughtful, well appointed environments that inspire and evoke emotion.
As a proud fourth generation Brooklynite, Kenya inherited her family's deep and abiding love for architecture, for Brooklyn, and for Brownstones especially. From exploring Greek Revivals and Italianties to appreciating the elegance and reliability of natural stone and parquet flooring, she learned the importance of care and thoughtfulness required to truly honor a home.
After graduating Howard University with a degree in Political Science and International Business Affairs, she realized that design - not law school as originally intended - was her life's path.
Kenya became a Corporate Fashion & Beauty Executive, and Procurement SME for Fortune 500 companies like: Ralph Lauren, Gap, International, Victoria's Secret, Tom Ford Fragrances and Le Labo. During her tenure at these brands, Kenya developed her talents for negotiating multimillion dollar contracts, oversight of category budgets and cultivating strategic supplier relationships - all elements that are foundational to commercial and residential construction and renovation project management.
The global pandemic provided Kenya with the opportunity to pivot from her fashion and beauty career transforming her passions and professional skills into meaningful projects. It was also during this time that her turn of the century Brooklyn Brownstone become her first whole home renovation project.
Wanting to understand the science and the complexities of the Design/Build model, Kenya earned multiple certifications in: Construction Project Management, Construction Scheduling and Construction Finance from Columbia University in New York.
Armed with her more than 20 years of professional expertise and the tools needed to ideate and manage residential home design and construction, Kenya decided to pursue these projects under her own label.
Since launching her eponymous design studio, Kenya has collaborated with clients seeking space planning solutions, sourcing & procurement expertise and management and oversight of partial and whole home remodels.
Kenya is also looking forward to completing phase II of her multi-year home renovation which she's documenting on social media.
